Grinding Splint
Protection and Relaxation with a Grinding Splint
Clenching of the teeth while asleep at night is mostly triggered by unresolved stress. The stress is practically being “bitten off “. High chewing forces cause the enamel to gradually rub off , the necks of the teeth get exposed and the jaw joint gets strained. Patients often complain of muscular tension in the jaw in the morning, headaches, pain and tension in the neck, as well as ringing in the ears (tinnitus). Clenching can also leave grinding scratches on the teeth or lead to defects of the tooth neck. The remedy here is a tailor-made bite splint, a so called “crunch splint”, which is worn at night. It relieves the masticatory muscles and the jaw joint and protects the teeth. In the case of myoarthropathies (jaw joint problems combined with muscular tensions, mostly painful tensions of the chewing muscles and/or the neck muscles) we work closely with specially trained physiotherapists.
